Houston ISD (HISD) CBE lets K-12 students skip a class (acceleration) or earn course credit. Grades 1-5 require 80% on EACH of Language Arts / Math / Science / Social Studies. Max 3 course credits per administration and max 2 attempts per subject during HISD enrollment.
Prosper ISD CBE + EA — Parent Guide: 70%/80%, Year-Long Course Window Rule (2026-2027)
Prosper ISD (PISD-North) splits CBE (70% pass, prior instruction) and EA (80% pass, acceleration) into two separate programs, with grade-band tracks for 1-5 and 6-12. Year-long courses (Algebra 1, Geometry, Biology, U.S. History) restricted to specific placement windows.
Frisco ISD CBE + EA — Parent Guide: 80% Mastery, Window A/D for Full-Year Courses (2026-2027)
Frisco ISD maintains CBE (prior instruction) and EA (Exam for Acceleration, no prior instruction) as two separate programs. EA requires 80% mastery. Full-year courses — Algebra 1, Geometry, Biology, U.S. History — are restricted to Window A or D. Parent-friendly guide.
McKinney ISD CBE — Parent Guide: 80%/70% Passing, 3-HS Structure (2026-2027)
McKinney ISD Credit by Examination: 80% for acceleration (TEC §28.023), 70% for credit recovery (19 TAC §74.24). Registration through your campus counselor at McKinney HS, McKinney Boyd, or McKinney North. District Assessments office administers.
Midland ISD Credit by Exam — Parent Guide: 80% Free vs 70% Paid, Apply 30 Days Ahead (2026-2027)
Midland ISD runs two Credit by Examination tracks with different passing scores and different bills: 80% for acceleration, which the district pays for, and 70% with prior instruction, which the family pays for. Cypress-Fairbanks ISD CBE — Parent Guide: 80% Pass + GPA/Class-Rank Impact (2026-2027)
CFISD Credit by Exam: 80% pass standard, three uses (accelerate graduation, make room for elective, credit recovery). Critical CFISD-specific rule: CBE grades and credit ARE used in GPA and class rank. 2-opportunity cap for MS students taking HS-credit CBE.
Dallas ISD CEFA — Parent Guide: 80% Mastery for Acceleration, Elementary All-Four-Subjects Rule (2026-2027)
Dallas ISD CEFA (Credit by Examination for Acceleration): 80% mastery for MS/HS courses, elementary grade acceleration requires 80% in all four subjects. Assessment Dept admin.
Carroll ISD Southlake CBE — Family Resource Guide: 80% Pass, UTHS-Only, District-Paid (2026-2027)
Carroll ISD Southlake CBE: 80% acceleration, 70% credit recovery. UT High School (UTHS) is sole vendor. District pays costs. K-8 grade skip; 6-8 math jump; HS untaken-course credit.
Eanes ISD/Westlake CBE — Parent Guide: 90% Bar, Prior-Year Enrollment, 10-Day Deadline (2026-2027)
Eanes ISD (Westlake HS) Credit by Examination: 90% passing, must be EISD-enrolled prior year, retest ONCE, scores by 10th school day, not allowed Jan-May of graduating year.
