If your child takes any Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) exam this 2025–2026 school year — whether a Grade 3–8 Math test, an end-of-course Algebra I, Geometry, or Algebra II SOL, the Writing SOL, or a Term Graduate retake — this is the calendar to bookmark. We've compiled the full schedule directly from the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) Student Assessment office published 2025–2026 Virginia Assessment Program: Test Administration Dates.

Every season. Every test window. Every Term Graduate first- and second-attempt window. Confirm specifics with your school division, since within each statewide window each division identifies its own 3–4 week local administration window.

Quick reference — the math windows

If you're only here for the math dates, here are the windows your child will most likely test in:

Quick reference — what each acronym means

  • SOL — Standards of Learning. Virginia's primary K–12 assessment system.
  • EOC — End-of-Course. High-school subject-specific exam (Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Writing, Reading, History, Science). Required for the Virginia Standard Diploma and Advanced Studies Diploma.
  • Term Graduate — A student near graduation whose ability to graduate depends on passing one or more SOL exams. They get a first-attempt window and a second-attempt window every season.
  • IRW — Integrated Reading & Writing. A newer combined assessment given at Grades 5, 8, and EOC.
  • VAAP — Virginia Alternate Assessment Program. For students with significant cognitive disabilities.
  • ACCESS for ELLs — English-language proficiency assessment for English Learners.
  • Virginia Growth Assessments — The Fall and Winter administrations of Grades 3–8 Reading and Math, measuring growth across the year.

Important notes

  • Within each statewide window, every Virginia school division identifies its own 3–4 week local administration window. Ask your school for the exact local dates — your test day may fall anywhere inside the statewide window.
  • Paper SOL tests are available only to students with a documented need. Most students will test online.
  • Term Graduate retake structure. Term Graduates — students near graduation needing to pass a SOL to qualify for the Standard or Advanced Studies Diploma — get a first-attempt window followed by a separate second-attempt window in Fall, Spring, and Summer (combined first + second in Summer for Writing).
  • "Ship-by" dates on paper tests are firm. If your child is the rare paper-test student, the school division's deadline to ship completed answer documents back for scoring is non-negotiable.
  • Multiple-Choice / Technology-Enhanced Item (MC/TEI) Component vs. Short-Paper Component for Writing. Each division decides the order in which these two components are administered for the online Writing test.

If your child is preparing for the Algebra I, Geometry, or Algebra II SOL

For Virginia students testing in any of the math EOC windows, our Texas CBE practice exams cover the same core algebra and geometry concepts that the Virginia SOL math EOCs test. The Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) standards for Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II share substantial overlap with the Virginia Standards of Learning for the same courses — both anchor on linear functions, quadratics, systems, polynomial operations, factoring, congruence and similarity, proofs (in Geometry), rational and radical functions, and exponential / logarithmic functions.

How Virginia SOL relates to Texas CBE and other state EOCs

Virginia SOL EOCs are high-stakes graduation-relevant exams — students must pass specified SOL exams to earn the Standard Diploma or the Advanced Studies Diploma. Texas, by contrast, uses STAAR EOCs for state accountability and offers a parallel Credit by Exam (CBE) route through UT High School (UTHS) that lets a student earn high-school course credit without taking the course. The exams differ in legal weight (graduation requirement vs. accountability) but the underlying math content is largely the same. A student strong on one will, in our experience, generally be strong on the other.
